About Tony

Tony Malone is a Wales-based bardic poet, knitter, artist, author and founder of the Valleys Yarnhouse cic.

Across 30 years of community work, Tony has championed inclusion, reduced inequalities and brought people together through kindness, creativity and crafting.

His contributions have received wide recognition, including a WalesOnline Lifetime Achievement Award for Inclusion in 2023, recognition as lead artist for the 2009 UNESCO International Year of Astronomy, and a personal award from His Holiness the Dalai Lama for services to young people in refugee zones.

An experienced knitter and writer, Tony creates work for adults and children and writes about craft, exploring the connections between words, materials, place and making.

His work continues to draw inspiration from Welsh landscape, culture and mythology. You can see this in his current publishing work, radio appearances or his yarn work across hand-dying and knitting.

You can often find Tony walking through South or West Wales with Draig, his faithful hound, discovering inspiration in the landscapes and stories of Wales.
